“Next the devil took Him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed Him the kingdoms of the world and all their glory. ‘I will give it all to you,” he said,’ if you will kneel down and worship me.’ ‘Get out of here, Satan,’ Jesus told him. ‘For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the LORD your God and serve only Him.'” Matt 4:8-10
Near the conclusion of His forty day desert experience, Jesus revealed the divine design for all humanity with these words, “You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.” This sentence followed an offer from satan to lure Jesus from the will of God the Father to a different path which would have led to His failure and destruction had He taken satan’s bait, but of course Jesus would have no part of it. With a quick and accurate reply the Son of God responded and brought purpose and privilege to all of humanity. Jesus included no apologetics, no discourse to defend God’s existence or superiority as the singular Creator and Ruler over all things, only the clear purpose and justification for our existence. There is no higher call, duty, or honor. Indeed the apex of the human experience is in worship and service to Jehovah God.
In a culture preoccupied with materialism and self-gratification the thought of all humanity existing for the purpose of worshiping God may not seem logical or appealing, but multitudes over generations would testify otherwise, for it surpasses anything to be offered from the world or satan the father of lies. Indeed the only way of knowing genuine and eternal life is through Jesus Christ and adoring Him in worship and service.
You alone are Jehovah God, the Father of all life and worthy of worship. I praise Your name for there is no other one like You, Lord. You are exalted above all things and all things exist for Your glory. Thank you Lord for my salvation and the honor of serving You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Holy are You, Lord! Amen.
