The Holy One

ATD 15The Word

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty – the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Rev 4:8

“You are worthy, O Lord to receive glory and honor and power. For You created everything, and it is for Your pleasure that they exist and were created.” Rev 4:11

Thought

On a hike once on the southern coast of Australia, I began growing tired and was essentially just placing one foot in front of the other as I ascended a steep trail leading to the highest point in the region. The reason for the trip up the hill was I had been told the view was well worth the walk, although a couple of times I wondered if it was going to be spectacular enough to merit the energy dispensed. Finally my friends and I reached the summit to discover a breathtaking view overlooking the ocean, huge waves, and beautiful beach. For a few moments there were no words, only silence while taking it in.

I can think of no more excellent way to begin a day than to acknowledge and honor the one who was here before us, made us for His purposes, and who will be here when we are gone from this earth. Whose goal in creating us and all things created was and is for His good pleasure alone. For everything to revolve around Him and His desires, not for us and what we desire. He is the highest, the purest, and the noblest. His character is flawless and all that He does is justified. He alone indeed is the only one worthy of our worship.

An honest attempt to contemplate and grasp even a portion of all He has done, all He is, and all He will do, can leave a grateful humble heart speechless and in awe. There is a Psalm apropos for the moment given to honor and worship of the Ancient of Days, “Be silent, and know that I am God!” (Ps 46:10)

Prayer

Lord though there are many things I could pray today, I choose instead to be still in honor and worship of You. For truly You alone are God, You alone are holy and You alone are worthy of all glory!

“Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will.” Isaiah 50:4
