The mission of hope

ATD 31The Word

“God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” John 1:6-9

Prior to these verses in John are written the powerful statements describing and declaring Jesus Christ as God, Son of God, and light to the world. Then in John 1:6 we read, “God sent a man…” His name was John, and he was commissioned by God to announce the arrival of the Redeemer of mankind. Following a millennia of prophetic words that began in Genesis 3:15, John’s would be the final voice announcing the arrival of the Christ as Jesus Himself had arrived and was now “going public” so to speak.

Since stepping through that delineating doorway and the completion of the Messiah’s redemptive act, God is still sending all who are His children into and throughout the world as witnesses of this light, the hope of mankind.

Each of us as believers in Christ are now “sent” by God to tell about the light so that everyone might believe. This is God’s will, His desire, and His mandate so the world might know His mercy, love, and grace. In a diminishing darkening world we have the privilege and empowerment through the Holy Spirit to still tell the Good News of light and life in Christ.

Lord, use me today to tell those You place in my path there is Good News for them in the light of Your salvation. Let my spiritual ears be sensitive to your leading this entire day and use me to sow the seed of Your kingdom. Amen.

“Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will.” Isaiah 50:4
