“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
One day I went for walk out into the field in front of our home. I was nearing a stand of Cedar trees when suddenly I heard the screech of a hawk approaching. I looked up and coming from the direction of a wooded area close to our house was a large Red-Tailed Hawk. It was flying desperately to distance itself from the attack of another bird. Not a larger predator bird like an Eagle whose size and strength would overpower the hawk, but instead the Hawk’s pursuer was a lone, squawking aggravating and very persistent Mocking bird. Whatever the Hawk did to invade or threaten the Mocking bird’s space, the little Mocking bird would have none of it and was tenaciously and successfully chasing a much larger and dangerous enemy from its territory.
We have a dangerous and well skilled enemy we know as satan. His goal, we are told by Jesus, is to “kill, steal, and destroy” us. Our protector, however, is the Lord God Almighty, a force so fierce no foe dare attempt an overthrow. Our trust and confidence must be in understanding the battle as Scripture declares truly is the Lord’s. He does not lose His battles, ever!
When we are knowledgeable and spiritually discerning of the will and objectives of our Lord and King, with the battle being His, we become a force to be reckoned with. He is our front and rear guard and thus when the enemy attempts to intrude upon the territory given us by God, no matter the enemy’s reputation and size, as the cliché goes, one Believer who trusts in the Lord God Almighty becomes the majority and winner.
You, O Lord, are God and You are mighty in battle against Your enemies. In Your name and by Your might,Holy Spirit, I will resist the wiles of the enemy, and as I do I am promised the enemy will flee. Amen.
