“A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.” 2 Timothy 2:24-26
The Apostle Paul referred to Timothy as a son in the faith and had made him a church leader. However, this letter to Timothy offers practical and life giving instruction to us all.
This may be the very day someone challenges and rudely opposes you. It will happen to anyone committed and wanting to honor God with their lives.
Pride, criticism, arrogance, and opposition will challenge the one given to fulfilling the will of God in their lives at any level. Their resistance and arguments will seem and may be unfair. They may come in the form of insolence and possibly from unexpected sources. When it does happen, for surely it will, this passage instructs us how to respond in a way which will cause us to grow, honor God, and in the end possibly assist the attacker to change his heart. Be assured the world contains difficult people some of which we all probably were at one time.
Lord Your Spirit facilitates Your will upon the earth in all things. My desire is to honor You. Should there appear in my path today an unjustified and unreasonable person set to cause harm, please guide me through the circumstance in such a manner to become more like You. Amen.
