“For the glory of your name, O Lord, preserve my life. Because of your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress.” Psalm 143:11
Christians are not promised a life free of distress. Presenting it in this manner would be deceptive and foolish for both Old and New Testaments passages point to the possibility if not the certainty of challenge and trial in this life. Wonderful though are the accompanying promises of sufficient comfort and grace as well.
Maybe another way of saying what is on the heart of David here could be this. For Your namesake Lord, intervene in my despair and danger so that others will know You are the Lord. There is nothing I can do to change my circumstance, but You are not limited in any way. Because of Your faithfulness come to my aid and bring me out of my distress.
Lord, when I am in the place of concern You tell me to trust You and to rest in Your faithfulness to deliver me from the place of fear and distress. To lock my eyes on You, the Lord of glory and my source of strength. When I am distressed, comfort me. You are the Shepherd of my life the one that leads and protects me. Amen.
