The Word

“All those who listen to me live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.” Proverbs 1:33

Everyone who listens and takes heed to the wisdom and guidance contained in the book will live in peace. Later in the Gospels Jesus affirms His peace was not like the anemic and temporal versions offered from any worldly sources, but was backed by the support and promises of the Kingdom of His Father, the only God who made all things, sustains all things, and who decides the destiny of all things.

We should also note, though, while we have peace from God, the verse doesn’t promise the absence of harm in this earth life, but strength from God to eliminate the effects of the fear of harm. What else but the divine peace of God could cause Paul to write in his letter to the Corinthians, “O death where is your victory? O death where is your sting?” (1 Cor. 15:55) The peace from God is beyond our ability to comprehend, and it is the promise from the One who always keeps His word.

Lord Jesus, without You all resemblance of peace is a mere shadow, but in You I can rest knowing You will always provide the level of peace equal to the task and call that You lead me into. Amen.

  1. Pastor Craig, I just love how the Lord brings confirmation! Today was a very challenging, stress-filled day. I reached out to two prayer warriors, both whom prayed as they received my prayer request for God to intervene on my behalf. One encouraged me with the word from Philippians 4:4-6 to make my request known with thanksgiving and His peace would guard my heart and mind. From there, the song “Christ is Risen” by Matt Maher came to mind. As I brought up the song to worship during my lunch hour, it became a proclamation…and it includes the very scripture that today’s devotional quotes: “O death where is your victory? O death where is your sting?” God is so good!
