“I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! Psalm 116:1, 2
I have always been fascinated by these passages because of the mental image that appears in my mind’s eye when I read them. I have been told by people before of their deep desire to hear the audible voice of God. I think the greater thing though, is to know when I pray, He actually hears me! He loves and cares so much for me He bends down to listen to what I have to say.
What? The God of all creation, who needs nothing, actually desires and cares enough for me to want to hear my voice that He’ll bend down to hear it. Why is God bending down for the psalmist? Does He have difficulty in hearing? Of course not! He is bending for this one of childlike faith to know He cares and is intertwined relationally with him. And, He will extend kind mercy.
Merciful and loving heavenly Father there is no rest or peace apart from Your great and wonderful presence, and so it is You I seek and to You I pray as long as I have breath. Amen.
