“Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11
For 39 years the Empire State building in Manhattan had the reputation of towering high above every other human constructed structure in the world until the World Trade Center surpassed it in 1973. Now it has fallen to 32th place with the Burj Khalifa building in Dubai towering 61 floors above the Empire State building. Currently the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa, will fall to position two at some point as human ingenuity continues to excel and compete.
Human resourcefulness will continue to exceed previous established records whether buildings, athletic achievements, product sales, manufacturing goals, financial wealth, technological advancements, or any other human accomplishment by individuals, institutions, or organizations. The drive to excel or exceed past the boundary or limitation of the previous achievement is the norm of the global community.
For many things the spirit of competition and motivation toward further excellence is positive. It is how medical cures are discovered, diseases are defeated, poverty is lessened, and the battle against injustices waged.
Man, however, is not the power broker or near potentate he assumes, for there is one who exceeds so far above and beyond him he cannot be placed within the same league categorically.
He is Jesus Christ, ruler above all who rule, authority above all government, above all civil and natural law, above all powers. He is the Son of God above all created things animate and inanimate.
Only you are Lord. Only you are above all things. Only you are worthy of worship, honor, power, and all glory! Amen.
