“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

There are times passages like this one appear distant and difficult to execute. When I feel this way I usually discover it is a problem of lack. Lack of faith, lack of trust, lack of listening, or lack of obedience. The Bible clearly tells me to give all my worries to God because he cares for me, period! No excuses. No questions asked. Just believe and allow the heart to experience peace.

Worry typically is the result of concern for the future,  enough material needs, relationship issues, or health concerns. Jesus said why worry about everyday life? Be focused on God’s Kingdom. God will provide. In fact, He said emphatically, “Do not worry…” (Matthew 6:25) so when I do the source is always one of those just mentioned.

During times of concern, Psalm 56:3 has been a close friend. “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” Not that misery loves company, but we see David’s struggle as He walked with God. He apparently experienced times when worry and fear were real and present. He acknowledged it, which was to acknowledge his weakness and lack of trust, and then, in so many words, asked for God’s intervention and the removal of fear and worries.

You have said, Lord, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” You speak only truth and so, Lord, by your grace and the power of your Holy Spirit, cause me to walk in faith, in the place of trust in you. Lead me to seek only the Kingdom and your righteousness. Amen.
