“Then I said, ‘Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures: I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.’ I have told all your people about your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out, as you, O Lord, well know. I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone in the great assembly of your unfailing love and faithfulness.” Psalm 40:7-10
Many scholars feel these verses, particularly verse seven, refer to the Messiah, not David. What followed though were not only for David but for believers in Christ as well. Jesus took joy in and was fulfilled by doing the will of the Father, not his own will. Jesus is our example to follow. We should not require a note in our pockets to remind us of our call and the divine duties given us by such a gracious God. Loving and obeying God should consume our hearts and fill our destined lives.
Our declarations should be fearless as they are empowered by God’s spirit. We can proclaim his perfect and holy justice, the good news of his faithful unfailing love and his unparalleled saving grace. The message of His Kingdom was not intended to be concealed from the world, but displayed as boldly as a city on a hill so that the world might know he has made provision for humanity’s redemption through belief and obedience to his Son Jesus Christ.
Lord I offer myself to you anew this morning and request to be used to proclaim the life and liberty of your grace, faithfulness, and unfailing love. Please Lord, use my life as your mouth piece to speak of you, your heart, and your flawless unfailing plans. Amen.
