The faithful pillars

ATD 191The Word

“Epaphras, a member of your own fellowship and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings. He always prays earnestly for you, asking God to make you strong and perfect, fully confident that you are following the whole will of God. I can assure you that he prays hard for you and also for the believers in Laodicea and Hierapolis.” Colossians 4:12, 13

Thought

Oh that we all have people like Epaphas in our lives! He was a genuine lover of Christ. Apparently he had given up, at least temporarily, the familiarity of his homeland to accompany Paul on mission and was seen by Paul as a servant of Christ and given to the causes of Christ. He was a member of their own fellowship, so he was acquainted with their personalities, challenges, strengths, and potentials. He must have been heard praying often for his spiritual family and village or requesting prayer for them because Paul writes that Epaphras was always praying “earnestly” and “hard” for them. And what was the content of his prayer for them? That they would be strong in Christ, perfect in Christ, confident in Christ, and following the “whole” will of God.

Those like Epaphras are one of God’s wonderful, beautiful, and needed provisions for expanding and sustaining our role as we carry out the will of the Father.

Prayer

I pray Lord for there to be many more as Epaphras raised up in the family of God in this needed hour. I also pray I might be found with his characteristics growing within. Amen
