A word about home

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4

On a New Year’s Eve, my wife and I had made reservations for four in a local restaurant. The plan was to spend an evening with friends for a quiet New Year’s Eve dinner together. When we arrived the restaurant instead of being seated inside as normal, we were seated at a table in the hallway due to an overbooked situation. We still had a great dinner, but certainly not what we had planned. Most of us have probably made plans for similar things like a movie, sports event, a school play or graduation and arrived only to discover there weren’t any seats available or the room had exceeded the fire marshal’s code and attendance would not be possible.

Jesus told his disciples what was about to unfold and they displayed concerned. He immediately followed up telling them not to worry and to trust him as they had been. He continued with insights into his future preparations for them and future believers as well. He indeed was going to leave, but also prepare a place for them. This promise is to all who have placed their trust and hope in him. In the Father’s house, there will be no shortage of room.

This planet we exist on is a work God completed in six days. Think of the 2,000 years Jesus has been gone after having made this statement. What awesome and wonder awaits must await us!

Praise your name gracious Lord for your love, provision, and promise. Let me serve you and your purposes today and each following until I am with you in your Father’s house forever!
