“He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left His case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.” I Peter 2:22-25
Humble and grateful. Those are the words describing my emotions having read this passage. How could Christ so perfect, without sin, love one so imperfect, self-centered, and broken as I? I am not alone, for all humanity without Christ finds itself in hopeless darkness in the putrid stench of self. There is only one truly pure, holy and able to resurrect the listless soul. He has made light in the darkness and life where death once reigned.
I’m writing this morning within the sounds of a peaceful stream, the gentle croaking of tree frogs and crickets in the distance. The best word to describe this morning atmosphere is…peace.
My best word to describe Christ as the Shepherd and Guardian of my soul…peace.
You are my Shepherd. What more could I need now that the God of creation faithfully and carefully watches over me? Amen.
