Alone with God

The Word

“Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.” Mark 1:35

Thought

The will of the Father, for all who are recipients of his wonderful grace, is to allow the Holy Spirit to transform us into the image of Jesus Christ. We are called Christians; Christ followers! We are to have as our life’s purpose and goal, to become like Jesus in every way. One of the most important examples he displayed for us, and intends for us to follow, is his deep desire and commitment to pray.

The incarnation is a mystery and challenge to the human mind, but nevertheless, Jesus Christ is Immanuel, God with us, fully God, yet fully human. Being fully God, was there a need for him to pray during his earth life? A deep question indeed, but this we know for sure, Jesus prayed, he prayed often, and he intended for us to do the same. He established the pattern of prayer so we would experience a healthy, productive, and effective spiritual life while we are on this earth.

Does it include rising before daybreak, at times, and finding a place of solitude to pray to God, isn’t that legalism? I’ve not met a single person who has incorporated this into their spiritual lives who would declare it “works”, but instead, an honor, privilege, and shear joy.

We must establish time alone with God in prayer as a consistent part of our Christian living.

Prayer

Thank you, Father God, for the opportunity and freedom to commune and worship you deeply in the quiet places. Amen.
