“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:13-17
We live in precarious times of pressure and conflict from many fronts. Truth is challenged, reason questioned, character and morals are defined to accommodate the perpetrators of integrity. Moorings of virtue once thought immovable; deteriorate. “What can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
We are to be the voice declaring light and hope, in Christ! We are to stand our ground using the weapons of God’s kingdom. We are to exude the qualities of the Christ we follow; to whom we are allegiant. To emanate genuine: compassion, mercy, grace, forgiveness, gentleness, kindness, and yes, to even love our enemies, just to list a few.
We are to stand in the truth, with the truth, and for the truth; and God’s Word is the absolute in truth! The Christian life is opposite of the world’s principles, character, and values for the most part. We are to stand in Christ’s strength and for his causes. Our war is not against flesh and blood, our war is spiritual and the weapons of our warfare are spiritual.
Can you hear the voice of God? He is saying, “STAND!” Stand in prayer; stand in his truth, stand by living the Christ-life before a dark, frail and fallen hopeless world?
Cause me Father to stand in your wisdom and strength, by your Holy Spirit. Cause me to be like Christ, your only Son, and Savior of the world. Cause me to represent his will, his desires, in his way. Amen.
“but rescue us from the evil one. “
