“Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.” Psalm 45:6
I was lost on a back country road when I spotted an older gentleman in denim overalls walking along the lane. I pulled the car beside him and asked for directions to my destination. He said, “Well, you go down this road, seems like forever, then you’ll come to the end, and you’ll turn right.” The road did not last forever, and I eventually did arrive at its end.
Nothing in this world, or the universe for that matter, will last forever. Everything will come to an end. The one exception, is the one God, Yahweh. The psalmist declares God and his throne, which is his dominion and rule, will last forever and forever. The phrase sounds redundant, but the writer drives home his point, God is the only eternal one. Yes, the redeemed of God through Christ, live into eternity, but only God has existed from eternity past and will continue into eternity future. He had no beginning and he will have no ending. He lives forever and ever, and he rules for ever and ever. Our God is awesome!
Praise you, eternal one, the only God, the most high above all things! You rule and abide forever, and your kingdom has no end. Amen
“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
