What Should We Do?

What Should We Do?The Word

“Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what should we do?’ Peter replied, ‘Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to show that you have received forgiveness for your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles—all who have been called by the Lord our God.’” Acts 2:37-40

Many years ago I was sharing the story of Christ with a man in his late twenties. We were seated on opposite sides of a city park picnic table. He listened very carefully; interjected an occasional question, but then began sharing his story of internal conflict, substance abuse, family dysfunction, and hopelessness. He concluded by asking if he too might be forgiven by God, and if so how?

God has made his intentions and the path of forgiveness clear for all. His purpose from the creation of mankind has been for deep genuine communion, friendship, and fellowship. Satan’s most devious and deceptive plans failed, as Christ came to seek and save all who would obey and embrace his redemptive accomplishment.

Thank you for your most gracious and beautiful gift of grace, your love and mercy, the catalyst to engage the grandest of plans for humanity’s rescue by the redemptive act of your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.”
