“Yet whenever your people turned and cried to you again for help, you listened once more from heaven. In your wonderful mercy, you rescued them many times!”
The Old Testament contains repeated examples of God’s people crying out to him for help. Their predicament was often caused by their own wrong choices, leading them into the hands of evil, tyranny, and oppression. Recurrent also are the episodes of God’s willingness and ability to extend mercy and deliverance.
His gracious mercy exceeds our capacity to understand as time and again he extends it. Frequent, though, are his clear messages to those in need of his mercy: to set their eyes and heart resolutely on him and not turn back.
Thank you for your rescue from the evil one. Thank you for your continued deliverance. Your mercy is new every morning. Because of your wonderful mercy, cause and empower me to pursue your heart and will with all my being. Amen.
“but rescue us from the evil one.”
