Deliverer

The Word

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. (Psalm 91:1-7)

Thought

On the afternoon of May 20, 2013 an EF5 tornado with peak winds estimated at 210 miles per hour struck Moore, Oklahoma killing 24 people and injuring 377 others. The tornado touched down and remained on the ground for 39 minutes creating a path the distance of over 17 miles long and up to 1.3 miles wide at its peak.

After the tragedy, sales for storm shelters in the Moore region surged substantially as they do in any region following a destructive storm. In the aftermath of a storm people realize its power and devastation, and their vulnerability.

Horrible and fierce as storms can be, humanity has a far more daunting formidable danger, more destructive than nature’s greatest force. This foe is Satan, and he desires our complete obliteration. A tornado is the result of certain climatic conditions without the ability to harbor ill will. The evil one has unmitigated hate and disdain for his victims and pursues their destruction.

However, the enemy of our soul is no match for the Lord! There is rest for those who abide in the shelter of the Most High. He is their protector, strong refuge, and safety.

Prayer

My trust and my hope is in you, the God of my salvation and keeper of my soul. Amen.

“but rescue us from the evil one. “
