Steadfast

The Word

Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless. (Philippians 2:16)

The Thought

Each morning at first light a male Cardinal would repeatedly fly into one of the windows of our house. While persistence is often presented as a virtuous characteristic, in this case it was better defined as obnoxious. A bit of research revealed this little fellow was in a battle with himself. Ornithologists believe this action occurs when the male sees his refection in the glass, and because he is territorial, attempts to challenge another male invading his region. The persistent little fellow outside my window was in a battle of vanity he could not win.

Jesus Christ is our protector and victor. To attempt battle against humanity’s foe is a struggle in vain no matter the intensity of our persistence. The battle as I Samuel 17:47 declares is, “…the Lord’s battle.” And, the challenger and foe does not exist who can overcome Christ the King.

The Prayer

Help me to understand Lord; you are mightier than the enemy planning my demise. I trust in you, your strength, and your promises of hope, the one presented in your word as the hope most certain! Amen.

“but rescue us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:13
