Ponder

The Word

How amazing are the deeds of the Lord! All who delight in him should ponder them. Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails. (Psalm 111:2, 3)

Thought

There is a wonderful peaceful, place in Woodstock, Vermont, called the Shire River House located on the edge of a very beautiful stretch of the Ottauqechee River surrounded by hills and meadows. One morning I was privileged to look out across the shallow river while listening to the gentle sound of the water flowing through the large rocks and stones. There were a few birds darting about on a tree about ten yards from water’s edge. Though late spring the morning air was still cool, a perfect morning to sit on the small porch and read selections from the book of Psalms. Then, as though orchestrated to enhance the moment, and signal morning’s arrival, came a single bell strike from the old First Congregational Church not far away.

Ponder is not a word often used anymore, but, it is the perfect word to describe the ambiance of this particular morning. The scene in every direction I gazed and the gentle sounds in the area reminded me of the creative greatness of God. We are told to not only ponder the deeds of the Lord, but to also take delight in every one.

Prayer

Indeed, my eyes and ears appreciate your great creation and my heart is filled with awe, wonder, and gratefulness. You, Lord, are great and glorious. You are righteous and holy. You alone are God and King forever. Amen.

“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
