I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. (John 13:15)
Immediately following the washing of his disciple’s feet, Jesus spoke these words. The theme, of course, is to embrace the glorious fruitful ministry of service to God, his will, and others. However, just as ripples cover the surface of a pond once a stone is tossed, so these words of Christ when uttered contain far reaching implications.
We are to follow the example of Christ in all aspects of life. He established the precedents in living a life to honor the Father in heaven, and, upon Christ’s resurrection, ascension, and sending of the Holy Spirit, he provided the enablement to do so.
One of the many areas of challenge for Christians is the continual extension of forgiveness in the same fashion as Jesus forgave. Believers have no option but to forgive as he forgave, as he made it clear if we desired to be forgiven we must, in turn, forgive. Yes, a principle not always easily obtainable, but certainly not impossible as Christ led the way for us as our victorious example.
Lord, I pray for your grace, power, and wisdom to proceed forward in this day walking as you walked as I am enabled by your Holy Spirit. Amen.
“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.”
