Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13)
The life of Christ, whom we are to imitate, teaches us many valuable and life giving qualities. Four are listed in this passage.
Jesus was vigilant concerning the activity and wiles of the evil one. He was uncompromising in pursuit of the will of the heavenly Father, whatever the request, wherever the leading, and whatever the odds. We can too stand firm, for our source is our faith in God and not in our own abilities. Jesus had a fearless courage to face oppositions, he was courageous as he knew the faithful promises of God. Finally, we recognize in our natural strength we are powerless, but in Christ we are strong to accomplish God’s will.
Lead me by your Spirit. Keep my spiritual eyes and ears vigilant, standing strong and courageous by your divine wisdom and power. Amen.
