Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. (James 1:17, 18)
Standing one morning on a mountainside overlooking hundreds, perhaps thousands, of acres of African plains the thought occurred to me. I wonder how many human lives and life forms have lived or passed through this region over the centuries? How will these same plains appear as the future unfolds? Some places, like the one I observed, change into vast lakes during rainy seasons, temporarily transforming the ecosystem. Some areas change as people move in, settle, and develop farmlands. When severe drought occurs, entire villages of people abandon a region, relocate, and nature again reclaims ownership.
People, governments, and whole nations change. In fact, entire ecosystems can alter, yet we are promised by God, unchanging internal security, peace, and stability from him. They are good and perfect gifts from God the Father who himself never changes. Where is the path leading to such internal bliss? It is found only within the path of forgiveness, the place of mercy and grace; the path never changing, just as its designer and creator never changes.
From you, through you, and in you is the promised security of life through your forgiveness. Thank you. Amen.
“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.”
