Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’ (John 8:12)
One cool, cloudy, fall evening, our 5 year old grandson was visiting. Suddenly, with adventure filled eyes, he said, “Grandpa, let’s go ride the four-wheeler in the woods!” To which I replied, “But, it’s totally dark out there!” You know grandpas though, so a few minutes later we were wrapped up in coats and rolling through the woods.
After about 15 minutes on the trail the headlights suddenly failed, I quickly braked, and there we sat, surrounded by complete darkness. He was a little concerned, but then I noticed I had accidentally hit the head lamp switch to the off position. One click and the light clearly revealed the path in front of us and the way home for hot chocolate.
Jesus said if we followed him we would not walk in the darkness, for he is the light of the world. His light penetrates the darkest of situations, and the only light leading to life.
In following you I need not fear the darkness. By your light, I have light to see the paths where you lead and the obstacles to avoid. Father lead me. Amen
