And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: ‘Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.’ And the four living beings said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb. (Revelation 5:13, 14)
My Dad collected music from the era when he and my mother were first married. Sometimes he would play the recordings at family gatherings and tell us they were the timeless classics, though my grandfather disagreed. My grandfather felt the songs from his youth were the classics. Both were correct, as each generation has their classics, and I now have a selection of my own from my youthful years. In truth, all songs and lyrics, old and new, classic or otherwise will fade to distant memory or forgotten altogether.
One song awaiting the redeemed though is indeed timeless, the one in the above passage. The lyric and melody is like nothing we’ve heard or can imagine in this earth life. The song is perfect, performed perfectly, addressed to the holy Lamb of God, and joined by every creature existing in the presence of God.
Blessing and honor and glory and power to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever. Amen.
“For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.”
