Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 124:8)
My grandson was still very young when I took him on his first walk into the field in front of our home. He was having a great time until he stepped into a Greenbrier patch. The thorns penetrated his jeans to his leg and the more he attempted to pull away, the more it hurt him. He then issued the cry for grandpa to play the hero, “Help me grandpa!” I quickly turned, saw those childhood eyes looking to me for help and I immediately came to his aid, and freed him from the thorny villain. Freeing him from his dilemma was effortless on my part, but he saw it as a much larger accomplishment and was glad I was there to help him out.
The situational problems we encounter as Christian’s may exceed our ability to solve, but they are never beyond the ability of the Lord’s help. He is not some limited story book personality confined to the pages of a child’s bedtime reader, he is the Lord of all heaven and earth! Creator God whose authority and power exceed the greatest powers and accomplishments of men nations, and empires.
The genuine humble cry for help from the lips of his beloved, usher liberation from the cleverest of snares, darkest of nights, and fiercest of enemies. Yes, the Lord God Jehovah, creator of heaven and earth, is the help of the redeemed of Christ!
Lord, I pray for your help and protection when trouble mounts its efforts of opposition. I will trust in you, my deliver and my hope. Amen.
“but rescue us from the evil one.”
