Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands. They will perish, but you remain forever; they will wear out like old clothing. You will change them like a garment and discard them. But you are always the same; you will live forever. The children of your people will live in security. Their children’s children will thrive in your presence. (Psalm 102:25-28)
During a night’s stopover in the Texas Panhandle, I stepped outside early in the morning to place something in the car. I returned to the hotel room for about thirty minutes and when I went back outdoors the temperature had dropped 15 to 20 degrees. When I mentioned it to the hotel clerk he simply responded, “Welcome to life in the Panhandle.” One moment I’m in short sleeves and the next I’m looking for a jacket.
We live in a culture and world much like the erratic weather characteristics of the Texas Panhandle. Change in the culture and world is constant and stability scarce.
Our Father in heaven is always the same, he never changes, and he is always reliable. He is the rock of stability, the promise keeper, and our constant place of refuge. He is our perfect Father forever. He never makes wrong decisions, never gives tentative advice, never wavers in his love, and is our Father forever.
I praise you this morning, Father in heaven. Holy is your name and perfect are all of your ways. Amen.
“Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.”
