God of All Life

The Word

God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth. Isaiah 42:5

I recently had the opportunity to watch a small group of antelope suddenly burst into a run through a large grassy plain in New Mexico. They made their way along a broad ravine’s edge and disappeared behind a hill. All this was against the backdrop of the snow capped Rocky Mountains. I am most always deeply appreciative of such moments visually reflecting God’s vast creative imagination and majesty. Equally stunning to me, though, are the common squirrels outside my writing nook within the trees close to our home. These agile little creatures quickly scamper across stones and then effortlessly run straight up the trunk of a red oak tree and out of my sight.

Countless pictures of life’s activity surround our every moment, in one form or another, across our planet. None of it though, would exist or occur were it not for the God of all life. He imagined it, spoke it into being, and maintains it. Each time I read John 1:3 and 4, I am intrigued and humbled by John’s words, “God created everything through him (Christ), and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created…”

We experience real life only through Christ! He creates shape, form, color, fragrance, movement, dimension, and, most brilliantly, purpose in content. That is to say he connects it all to reason. And what is the reason? His great glory and honor, of course!

Thank you, God of all life, for creating the marvel of the world. Thank you for igniting the sense of appreciation within me for you and your limitless abilities to create, maintain, and give life. Worthy are you, Lord, to receive all praise. Amen.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
