Avoiding Hazards

The Word

Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. (Hebrews 12:15)

Forgiveness is the escape key from the deepest and darkest of spiritual, mental, and emotional captivity, and leads to freedom’s highest mount. Those recipients of God’s forgiveness testify fervently of it’s liberating power to heart and soul. Forgiveness causes light and life to replace and overwhelm fears with courage, exchange anguish and torment with joy and delight, and anger into peace and contentment.

The richest vein of forgiveness is God’s forgiveness. His forgiveness replaces hate and disdain with love, the depth of which covers a multitude of sin. Forgiveness is the heart of God and his desire for all to experience.

Though the source is unknown, I once read, “Bitterness is unforgiveness fermented.” We are warned to be vigilant to the effects of unforgiveness, for it becomes a root of bitterness and poisonous to its host and others as well. The antidote to this poison is to forgive.

Thank you for forgiving me when I was unworthy of your grace and mercy. Please guard my heart, and by the wisdom and strength of your Holy Spirit, may I forgive others as you have forgiven me. Amen.

“And forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.”
