Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up. (Daniel 3:16-18)
In the face of fierce threat and challenge, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego exemplified and inspired us with their hearts of commitment, courage, faith, and deep trust in God. He is able to deliver us from evil’s darkest intentions, to eliminate evil’s overshadowing danger and doom. We are invited and encouraged to pray for deliverance from evil, and we should.
These three men though, in their commitment and unwavering allegiance to God, speak what is incomprehensible for most. They are clear to say to their captors, God will rescue them, he has the power to do so and nothing can stop him from stepping in, but even if he doesn’t, come what may, they will serve only Jehovah God.
Cause us by your grace and the power of your Holy Spirit, to be resolute, faces set like flint, for the honor of your glory and name, regardless of the cost. Amen.
“And don’t let us yield to temptation”
