Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. (James 5:15)
The weight of sin is heavier than the heart can endure. The guilt and condemnation it produces crushes the soul and smothers life, just as an incurable disease drains the heart of healthy accurate rhythms to supply the body with the necessary blood flow to sustain it. Attempts to hide and ignore sin will ultimately lead to death, eternal death.
Sin is not an inescapable prison, but a cavern of darkness in which the evil one uses foolishness, fear, and deception to hold his victims captive, confused, hopeless, and petrified.
One prayer though, reveals the way of freedom from this chasm of death. One prayer provides the way of escape. God gave his Son as the propitiation for our sin. Jesus has reconciled any and all liability incurred by our sin and made the way of release from the soul’s debtor prison. One prayer releases God’s forgiveness, though the powerful redemptive act of Christ, and jettisons the heart from the shackles of sin’s curse. One prayer away awaits the experience of the life of freedom.
The prayer of confession and repentance has released your loving mercy, extended me forgiveness, and given the freedom of your abundant grace. Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, for freeing me. Amen.
“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.”
