Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are. (John 17:11)
There is a father who understands every lonely moment we have ever experienced. There is a father who has seen our failures, who loves us, and will encourage us with perfect words of comfort and guidance. There is a father who is aware of the injustices and rejections thrust upon us and the wounds we carry as a result. He is aware of our insecurities and emotional scars suppressing our future potential. He understands the very delicate, intricate chambers of our heart, our fear of exposure, our elusive behavior, and our attempts to hide. He knows when we are frightened and confused, and gives solace.
There is a father, who will never arrive late when he says he will meet us at an appointed time. He will always keep his word, his promises. He is the father who has seen a path for our lives, encourages us to follow it, and as he has promised, to see us through to its end. He is the father who knows we can accomplish this earth journey purposefully, positively, and successfully.
This father knows the perfectly balanced nourishment our system needs, and will provide it for our ultimate life experience. This is the father of genuine mercy, truth, and faithfulness. He is always present and always loving. He is the Holy Father, God the Father, and yes, he is our Father.
Father in heaven, you are wonderful in all of your ways. When I think of you fathering me in your perfect character, caring for me more than I certainly deserve and more than I will ever know or imagine on this earth, I am grateful beyond words. You are holy, you are God, and you are my Father in heaven. Amen.
“Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.”
