He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. (1 Peter 2:21)
Many years ago, I was hiking with some Aussie brothers through a dense forest region of Southern Australia. The tree canopy was relatively high and the forest floor covered with tall thick ferns. Earlier in the day, in a different terrain, we had seen Red Kangaroo, Wombat, Emu, and many smaller animals. In this portion of the forest though, our eyes focused upward with hope of spotting Koala in the wild. Before departing the ranger station for the hike, we were told to be vigilant and keep an eye on the ground because of some very poisonous snakes in the region. His best advice to avoid them was to stay on the path, and follow the steps of the guide.
Christians have as their leader, the perfect example to follow in Christ. God loves and is pleased by his Son, and in as much as he is in us and we look like Jesus, the Father loves and is pleased with us.
Christ is the way, knows the way, and has shown the steps in which we are follow. His choice and location of steps are acutely accurate. He was never confused, disoriented, or lost, and he continues to guide us with the same perfection and holy precision.
This day holds many choices, directions, and paths. You are my example Lord Jesus; you are one who will lead me into all truth for your glory. Open my eyes to see your every step and my heart to wisely follow. Amen.
