If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you. (Psalm 91:9, 10)
While watching wildlife footage of a mother bear defending her lone cub from aggressive wolves, I noticed she was far outnumbered by the wolf pack was not a very large bear. When the wolves advanced to attempt to take her young cub, the mother instantly became a fierce, uncompromising force of defense. Had the wolves collectively, simultaneously ascended on the female bear, they could have overpowered her, but the bear boldly and unyieldingly stood her ground to protect the cub. She quickly convinced the hungry assailants this was not a battle they should endeavor and deterred the attackers.
Our foe is loathsome, despicable, deceitful, and deadly. He is always on the prowl, intent to harm and, if possible, utterly destroy the innocent, unprotected, weak, and non-vigilant. One force alone is capable of exposing and repelling his trickery and dispel all attacks. One force alone conquers the darkest of evil’s challenges, no matter the most reprehensible onslaught. One force alone displays the muscle to strongly deter evil’s most keenly devised scheme. It is one force and one power: the power of the one God, Yahweh!
In you, Almighty One, is my strength, encouragement, and my safe guard. You are my deliverance from evil, you are my victory, you are my conqueror, and you are my God. Amen.
“but rescue us from the evil one.”
