The Lord says, ‘I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.’ (Psalm 91:14)
A news video revealed the desperate moment of a person being hopelessly swept along a flooded stream. On the water’s edge, there were several attempted rescues. One took a tree limb and stretched as far as he could to reach the victim, but failed. Another used a long pole to attempt to do the same, but again without success. Further downstream, though, a group of people had thrown a rope to others on the opposite bank. With the rope stretched across the water, the victim was able to grasp the line, and then several assisted pulling him safely from the water’s deadly rage.
Believers are recipients of God’s promise of rescue and protection as we trust in him. He is the only one who can keep every promise he extends. He is the only one 100% engaged in our welfare, and he is the only one resourced and capable of successfully countering every evil plan against us, defeating any and all advances of destructive nature. Why would anyone refuse the Lord’s unfailing offers and instead pursue the frail and reckless ones of human making?
Thank you, Lord, for your rescue and your continued care and watchful eye over my life. In you I place my hope, and in you I place my trust. Amen.
“but rescue us from the evil one.”
