The Road to Follow

The Word

Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. (Psalm 25:4, 5)

My wife and I traveled one of Colorado’s mountain country, back roads, one summer’s day. Prior to the exploration we studied the map and drove to a selected region. Most of the time was spent on dirt and gravel roads, sparse of directional signage. After several hours drive, and ready to return to our hotel, we reviewed the map. We discovered a few miles away, via a narrow road, there was a main highway substantially reducing our distance.

We followed the narrow road about an hour, but with not more than a couple miles before intersecting the main highway, we came upon a road block with a ranger seated in his vehicle. He informed us the road was impassable, the result of a landslide. “How can we get to the main road?” I asked. “Return the way you came.” a three hour’s drive. Then after a pause he smiled and said, “Or, you can take a short drive to the interstate on that lane.”, and pointed to a tiny road we’d not seen as it was hidden by a curve.

The Lord leads on distinct paths containing his impeccable truths.  His will is for us to clearly see and understand where he is leading. He does not want us to mistakenly take wrong courses, thus his clarity in describing the look and feel of his paths. For those who seek with right heart, he points the path and guides with perfection those desiring to be led. Therein lies our daily and eternal hope.

Thank you Lord for saving me. Thank you for your truth, spiritual tutelage, and leadership. Thank you, God of my hope. Amen.

“And don’t let us yield to temptation”
