The Lord is a warrior; Yahweh is his name! (Exodus 15:3)
Just two days ago Christmas was celebrated. The birth of the Christ child, Jesus, became the hinge point of the human story, within God’s story. Immortality took mortal form, Emmanuel, God with us. Christmas is associated with peace, gentleness, and tranquility. The celebration of God’s promise of the Messiah and all he would accomplish for the Kingdom of God.
Christ is gentle, humble; the Prince of peace, but on behalf of mankind and the purposes of the kingdom, the Lord is also a warrior. He is fearless, noble, righteously justified, and unstoppable. He is the conquering King of kings, resolute in his holy mission.
He stands victorious against every obstacle and weapon formed against him. He thus stands to disable the weapons formed against us. His warfare and tactical plans differ from those of the rulers of the world, but his effectiveness to overcome all opposition to his kingdom, are unyielding and definitive. The Lord is a warrior, holy conqueror, and our divine deliverer from the evil one.
You deliver me from the destruction of darkness by your mighty power. Battles may rage, but the war is won. No weapon formed against me will stand. Amen.
“but rescue us from the evil one.”
