For each an adventure

The Word

The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. (Gen 12:1, 2)

Whether we are pastors, worship leaders, physicians, plumbers, school teachers, stay at home moms, factory workers, or cowboys. If we embrace the Christ-life we are in full time ministry. We are Christ’s ambassadors wherever we live and whatever we do.

There was great weight in God’s instruction to Abraham. Abraham’s obedience would require leaving most everything familiar, perhaps forfeiting comfort, and launching into many things unknown. Abraham’s security and future would lie in his trust in God. Wisely, he followed God, and though not always the easy, rational, or humanly reasonable path, it was the right one because it was God’s design for Abraham. The same is true of God’s will for each of us.

We’re often drawn to these words in this passage, “I will bless you and make you famous…” We should note God’s blessing, while always right, purposeful, and fulfilling, will also include trust when there is uncertainty in our human reasoning, sacrifice, and selflessness. The life given to loving and following God will, in the end, be found with no regret.

In my heart, Lord, I know your will, your path for me is better than anything I could design for myself. You lead and give wisdom and strength to follow you. You have called me to use my life for your purpose, to worship and honor you. Amen.

“May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. “
