I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies. (Psalm 18:1-3)
“Bitter and dangerously cold” was the weather report for the morning as I looked across the snow covered field. The temperature was in the lower single digits and overexposure to the elements without proper protection would have had quick and harsh effects on the human body. I was huddled inside near the warmth of a wood stove and sheltered from the external conditions capable of harm.
There is a far greater danger to us than the cruelest of weather elements. This danger is evil, cold hearted, and the enemy of our soul. Without Christ, one’s spiritual future is desperately dark with nothing from the world to help.
In Christ though, we are shielded from harm leading to eternal death. He is our hiding place with unlimited ability and resource to provide safety in the midst of treachery, danger, and deceit. He is our protector, and conquering King!
Indeed my heart explodes with love for you this morning. I praise you for your refuge from the one who would me harm. You are my God, my rock, my fortress, and my Savior. Amen.
“but rescue us from the evil one.”
