God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. (John 1:6-9)
“God sent a man…” His name was John, and he was commissioned by God to announce the arrival of the Redeemer of mankind. Following thousands of years of prophetic words, beginning in Genesis 3:15, John’s would be the final voice to announce the arrival of the Christ.
God is still sending all who are his children into and throughout the world as witnesses of this light, the hope of mankind.
Each believer in Christ is “sent”, each is on mission, commissioned by God to tell others of the light. This is God’s will, his desire, and his mandate, so the world might know his mercy, love, and grace. In a diminishing darkening world we have the privilege and empowerment through the Holy Spirit to still tell the Good News of light and life in Christ.
Lord, use me today to tell those you place in my path there is Good News for them in the light of your salvation. Let my spiritual ears be sensitive to your leading this entire day to sow the seed of your kingdom. Amen.
“May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”
