The Word

Lord, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you. (Psalm 130:3, 4)

These words cause the hearts of those forgiven to rejoice with gratefulness! God, through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, has expunged the record of sin.

I have friends whose pasts were entangled in crime, who were arrested, convicted as charged, and then later discovered Christ and turned to him. They love him, serve him, and have followed him for many years now. Because of their crimes and subsequent sentences though, some of them cannot accompany me on the short term mission trips I take out of the United States.

God on the other hand in his desire for us all to be in close growing relationship with him, made provision for our hopeless situation, to free us from the result of our sin. Within his provisional plan he not only forgives us, but he also eliminates the record and sentence against us. Without the application of God’s grace and his path to forgiveness the record of offense stands and leads to eternal destruction. God be praised for his incomparable grace, way of salvation, deliverance, and freedom.

Thank you for your salvation, through confession, repentance, and the embracing of your son Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of the world. Thank you for revealing to me the way to life. I pray my life would honor you today and use me to lead others to your path of freedom. Amen.

“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.” Matthew 6:12
