Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his methods! For who can know what the Lord is thinking? Who knows enough to be his counselor? And who could ever give him so much that he would have to pay it back? For everything comes from him; everything exists by his power and is intended for his glory. To him be glory evermore. Amen. (Romans 11:33-36)
One need only dwell a few moments in the life producing fields of God’s Word to begin to sense indescribable wonder, goodness, and gratefulness. We discover from his Word simple and practical instructions for daily living, but we are also confronted with the unfathomable depth of his unexplainable mystery. For example we do not deserve his love, yet he loves us. He is rightly justified to bring judgment on us, yet he has shown mercy. We were condemned to punishment, but he extended grace. Who can understand such acts? No one, but we are wise to humbly, repentantly, and gratefully embrace him in all his glory while submitting to his greatness and will.
He is the wonderful and only God. He is perfect in all of his qualities and justified in each of his actions. Each time the heart of the lover of God attempts to understand the mystery surrounding him, it leads the seeker of God to a place of stillness and awe before him. Indeed, we exist for his glory as does every created thing.
Our relationship with him begins with the abandonment of self and proceeding in trust of his infallibility and perfect care. We will never completely understand or exhaust his depth. We rejoice in his holiness, his faithfulness, and serve him in a life of worship to which he alone is worthy to receive.
I am overwhelmed by you, Lord. Sufficient words do not exist to honor your greatness nor thoughts to capture your image in mind’s eye. Yes, you alone are God. To you be all glory and honor forever. Amen.
“Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.”
